Cargo Handling Billund Airport

Direct access to the world

Cargo Handling Billund Airport (CHBA) is Denmark’s largest air cargo hub, with a central location relative to Denmark’s industry. When you ship by air through CHBA, your products make it to their destinations – easily, safely, and quickly.

Time in the air is an important factor in air logistics, but time on the ground matters just as much. At CHBA, we work on the shortest deadlines in the industry, and we’re here 24 hours a day. This ensures a short time-to-market for your business.

Dogs / EDD at Cargo Handling Billund Airport

Cargo Handling Billund Airport is one of only three places in the world to use specially trained explosive detection dogs that have mastered the demanding REST method. Using small scent samples, these dogs can screen an entire trailer full of cargo much more quickly and cost-effectively than was previously possible.

About the REST method
The Remote Explosive Scent Tracing (REST) method is so demanding that only three countries in the entire world are currently using this screening type.

In the REST method, airport security staff take a small sample of air from a trailer, a shipping container, or a similar compartment full of cargo. Then, a REST-trained detection dog smells the air sample.

REST dogs include Labrador Retrievers, German Shepards, and Belgian Malinois. These dogs have spent many, many hours with their handlers learning to recognise explosives.

Just by smelling an air sample, these highly trained dogs can determine whether particles of various types of explosives are present in the air around the cargo.

The detection dogs indicate a possible detection by sitting, at which time their handlers retrieve the air sample for further testing.
